1. Four Cards face Down
Omaha is a community card based poker game where all players at the table get dealt 4 cards face down to begin with. They then make initial bets based on how much they like these cards.
2. Betting Decisions
The basic betting decisions are Check, Call, Bet, or Raise. In the first round of betting as there is a big blind you cant check on the opening orbit, but have to at least call in you want to play your hand (ie match the size of the big blind).
3. Three Cards Face Up in the middle of the table
Once all betting based on the first 4 cards is complete a further 3 cards are dealt into the middle of the table face up. This is called The Flop. These cards are community cards. ie anyone can use them. Once they are dealt there is another round of betting with the same betting decisions as in no.2.
4. One more face up in the middle
This card is called The Turn. There are now a total of 4 cards face up in the middle. You now have another betting round.
5. Final card face up in the middle
This card is called The River. There are now a total of 5 cards face up in the middle (these comprise "The Board"). You now have a final betting round.
6. Best Hand Wins
You now need to make the best possible 5 card poker hand using exactly 2 cards from your hand and exactly 3 cards from the board. You cannot play more or less cards from either, it must be 2 from your hand, 3 from the board. If your hand is the best overall out of remaining players in the hand, then you win.
